Biography
Australian organist of Korean heritage, Sarah Kim has built an international career across Europe’s most prestigious concert halls and cathedrals.
Trained at the Sydney Conservatorium and the Paris Conservatoire, she brings to the organ a rare combination of technical mastery, scholarly depth and orchestral vision.
Sarah Kim is an Australian organist of Korean origin, born in Germany and currently based in Paris.
She began studying piano and violin at an early age in Cologne and had her first organ lessons with Miriam Gaydon at age eleven in Sydney.
She later studied with Philip Swanton at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, graduating with First Class Honours and the University Medal. During this time, she held organ scholarships at the University of Sydney, St Paul’s College, St James’ Anglican Church, and maintained a busy schedule performing at major venues including the Sydney Opera House and the Town Halls of Sydney, Perth, and Melbourne.
Awarded a University of Sydney Overseas Travelling Scholarship, Sarah became the first Australian organist admitted to the Cycle de Perfectionnement and Master’s programme at the Paris Conservatoire, studying with Olivier Latry and Michel Bouvard, and graduating with the highest distinction. She later completed a specialised Master’s in early music at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis under Wolfgang Zerer, Andrea Marcon, Lorenzo Ghielmi, and Jörg-Andreas Bötticher.
A prizewinner at the Sydney, Newcastle, and Paris International Organ Competitions, she has given masterclasses at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the Oundle International Summer Academy (UK).
Sarah has performed in renowned venues including Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, the Paris Philharmonie, Westminster Abbey, the Royal Chapel in Versailles, the Musikverein in Vienna, and the Berlin Philharmonie. She has appeared as soloist with the Swedish Baroque Orchestra, the Oxford Band of Instruments, and the Bordeaux Orchestra, and appeared in duo concerts in Italy and Paris with her late mentor Jean Guillou.
She regularly collaborates with the Paris-based ensemble Le Balcon, as well as with the orchestras and choirs of Radio France, and is currently the organist at the Oratoire du Louvre in Paris.
